From July 7–10, 2025, the Personal data protection week (PDP Week 2025), jointly organized by the Personal Data Protection Commission of Singapore (PDPC Singapore) and the Asian Institute of Policy and Privacy (AIPP), was held on a large scale at Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Singapore. The event brought together more than 3,000 attendees, mostly from across Asia, including regulators, data protection professionals, and corporate representatives, to exchange experiences, share best practices, and foster cooperation in personal data protection.

HM&P Law Firm (“HM&P”) was represented at the event by Managing Partner Nguyen Van Phuc and Senior Associate Nguyen Nhat Duong, who actively participated in various sessions throughout the four-day program.

PDP Week 2025 was a four-day series of interconnected events featuring a wide range of programs. The first day focused on a personal data protection conference, covering the latest legal developments, best practices, and feasible strategies tailored for data protection professionals. The second day featured the Privacy Enhancing Technology (PET) conference, which highlighted advanced technologies supporting the protection of user privacy. This conference brought together pioneers and experts to explore how PETs, such as synthetic data, can promote responsible data usage and accelerate AI development. Days three and four featured the IAPP Asia Privacy Forum 2025, the region’s premier platform for privacy professionals offering regional perspectives on global developments, shaping the future of privacy and AI governance in Asia and beyond.

PDP Week 2025 opened with an inspiring keynote by Ms. Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Innovation of Singapore, who emphasized the essential role of personal data protection in the digital age, especially in the context of the increasing integration of artificial intelligence and data analytics in business operations.

This was followed by the thematic panel discussion “From policy to practice: Translating AI use for businesses,” where experts shared experiences in transforming AI governance principles into concrete business solutions. At this session, Lawyer Duong contributed insights by sharing practical experience in deploying AI technologies within organizations, while highlighting the importance of privacy risk assessment, designing appropriate control systems, and maintaining transparency throughout the product lifecycle.

Next came the panel “Staying ahead of data breaches: From cyber security to cyber resilience”, which focused on the shift from traditional cybersecurity mindsets to models enhancing comprehensive resilience in the face of data breach incidents.

The event concluded with a series of Lightning Talks on Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs), introducing advanced technological solutions such as homomorphic encryption and federated learning. These technologies enable businesses to process and analyze personal data without directly accessing the original data. According to Lawyer Phuc, this helps optimize operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with privacy and data protection regulations.

In addition to the major workshops attended by all delegates, HM&P lawyers also participated in masterclass sessions, where personal data protection experts and DPOs from across Asia discussed practical implementation of data protection laws in their respective businesses and countries, with the aim of raising awareness and compliance across jurisdictions.

HM&P’s participation in PDP Week 2025 is part of the firm’s strategic development focus in the area of technology and data law, both currently and in the time to come. It also reaffirms the firm’s position as one of the pioneers in innovation and in providing legal services tailored to the tech sector. Participation in Asia’s leading data-focused events is also a keyway for HM&P to maintain its position as a top-tier firm in this field in Vietnam.

The event further served as an opportunity to connect with regional experts on legislative trends, AI governance frameworks, and key considerations for businesses in building data compliance systems. This will strengthen HM&P’s foundation to accompany Vietnamese businesses in implementing the new Law on Personal Data Protection 2025, which will officially take effect on January 1, 2026.
