On the afternoon of November 29, our Managing Partner Nguyen Van Phuc had the honor to participate in the conference "Trade and Investment Cooperation Conference between Dong Thap Province and Japanese Enterprises in 2023".
The conference was organized by the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee with the aim of maintaining and expanding trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Japan in general and Dong Thap and Japan in particular. At the same time, it is also an event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan (21/9/1973 - 21/9/2023), and to celebrate the upgrading of relations between Vietnam and Japan to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" on 27/11/2023.

The conference was attended by more than 200 delegates with about 50 enterprises, investors, associations - Business Associations of Japan and Dong Thap Province. In particular, the representative of the Japanese side is Mr. Ono Masuo, Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee was represented by Mr. Le Quoc Phong, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Phan Van Thang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Pham Thien Nghia, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. The conference was also attended by representatives of a number of ministries, central agencies and leaders of Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Le Quoc Phong, Secretary of Dong Thap Provincial Committee, said that Japan is Vietnam's fourth largest trade partner and third largest import and export partner. In particular, Japan has been the leading ODA and investment partner of Vietnam for many years. Specifically for Dong Thap, in 2022, the total import and export turnover of goods in Dong Thap to the Japanese market reached USD 18.17 million, and in the first 8 months of 2023, reached USD 20.5 million. The main export items are: leather shoes, seafood, post-rice products, textiles, collagen, shrimp crackers, fruits...

In addition, Mr. Le Quoc Phong stressed: "We have prepared the most favorable conditions for enterprises to quickly implement the project, with many industrial zones and clusters in the province such as Tan Kieu, Tan Lap, Truong Xuan, Quang Khanh, Dong Thap Border Gate Economic Zone has been completely built, ready for the construction of the project”.
Accordingly, Dong Thap is focusing on developing the border economy, urgently developing key transportation routes to facilitate trade by both road and waterway, and connecting Dong Thap closer to key economic centers in the region and the whole country.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Ono Masuo, Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, said that according to JETRO's survey on overseas investment by Japanese companies, Vietnam ranks second, just behind the US. In the future, when the road and waterway infrastructure system is completed, it will lead to investment opportunities in Dong Thap.
However, given the limitations in the current administrative procedures, Mr. Ono Masuo suggested: "In order to simplify administrative procedures, Dong Thap Province is requested to consider and establish a Japan Desk at the Provincial People's Committee. This will not only help Japanese enterprises consider their intention to invest in Dong Thap, not only can contact a unified focal point, but also helps Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee to gather information comprehensively, not scattered discretely about the investment research situation of Japanese enterprises when passing through each department, provincial departments".
