On April 24, 2025, representatives of HM&P Law Firm (“HM&P”), including Managing Partner Nguyen Van Phuc and Associate Nguyen Nhat Duong, attended the "Lunch 'n' Learn" event with U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Marc E. Knapper. The event was organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi (AmCham Hanoi) and held at the Pan Pacific Hanoi Hotel. It formed part of the celebrations marking 30 years of normalized diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States, as well as the symbolic milestone of 50 years since the end of the war—an opportune moment to reflect on the two countries’ path toward cooperation, dialogue, and sustainable development. Taking place against the backdrop of intensified discussions around the United States’ new tariff policies, the event attracted special attention from legal experts, representatives of business associations and economic organizations, as well as companies engaged in international trade and import-export activities.

In his address, Ambassador Knapper emphasized Vietnam’s increasingly vital role in the United States’ global trade strategy. He acknowledged the ongoing efforts of Vietnamese businesses to improve operational standards and meet the rigorous requirements of the U.S. market, particularly in key export sectors. The Ambassador also outlined several noteworthy developments in recent U.S. tariff and trade policies, including import duty adjustments, geographically based preferential treatments, and stricter scrutiny of goods originating from the Asia-Pacific region.

As a legal service provider to numerous commercial enterprises, HM&P actively engaged in discussions with economic organizations, business associations, and representatives of the U.S.–Vietnam business community. The firm focused on clarifying the legal concerns, obstacles, and compliance risks that businesses currently face amid shifting tariff policies. Managing Partner Nguyen Van Phuc stressed that, in the context of increasingly complex technical and policy trade barriers, timely understanding of policy shifts in major markets such as the United States is a prerequisite for Vietnamese businesses to proactively adapt, optimize their production-export strategies, and maintain competitiveness. He further emphasized that close coordination between the business sector, regulatory authorities, and international organizations is crucial to ensuring that the collective voice of the Vietnamese business community is effectively heard and protected in global policy discussions.

HM&P’s participation and contribution at this event not only reflect the firm’s proactive approach in staying abreast of international legal developments affecting Vietnamese enterprises, but also affirm our role in supporting businesses to build a resilient legal foundation to navigate the rapidly evolving trade and regulatory environment. With extensive experience in international trade law, HM&P is committed to actively contributing to policy dialogue and delivering effective, practical legal solutions for both domestic and foreign clients.
