HM&P participates in Singapore Data Festival for the second year in a row
Posted on: 25/07/2026

From July 20-24, 2026, Managing Partner Nguyen Van Phuc and Senior Associate Pham Thanh Huy represented HM&P Law Firm ("HM&P") to attend the Singapore Data Festival 2026 at Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. The event, co-organised by the Personal Data Protection Commission of Singapore ("PDPC Singapore") and the Information Communications Development Authority of Singapore ("IMDA"), brought together more than 2,000 leaders, experts and practitioners in the field of data and artificial intelligence to discuss how data is shared, managing and exploiting value in the digital economy.

The program is implemented in four thematic groups - Data x Trust, Data x Innovation, Data x Digital Responsibility, and Data x Community - reflecting issues that are of particular interest to regulators and businesses: building trust in data mining, promoting data-driven innovation, responsible AI governance and the development of a community of data professionals.

    Overview of the workshop

On July 20, 2026, Lawyer Phuc attended the workshop "What Could Possibly Go Wrong? How to Manage AI Risks You Didn't See Coming", focuses on identifying and managing risks that are difficult to predict during the development, deployment, and use of AI systems. Discussions at the workshop showed that AI risks not only come from technical errors, but also arise from input data, system design and operation, dependence on technology providers, as well as the lack of human monitoring mechanisms. Lawyer Phuc commented:

"Businesses need to identify and control AI risks right from the design, data selection, and system deployment stages, rather than just dealing with them after an incident has arisen."

Lawyer Phuc shared insightful observations during the workshop

On the same day, Lawyer Huy attended the workshop "Do It Right – How to Use DPIAs as Strategic Tools", focusing on the use of Data Protection Impact Assessment ("DPIA") as a strategic management tool, rather than a mere compliance document. When done correctly, DPIA helps businesses identify risks early in the entire personal data processing lifecycle, assess the impact on data subjects, and integrate data protection requirements right from the design of products, services, and operational processes. Lawyer Huy shared:

"DPIA should not only be implemented to complete the compliance record, but should be part of the decision-making process and data risk management of the enterprise."

In the following days of the event, HM&P lawyers participated in a series of sharing, networking events and master classes on AI Governance in a number of specific fields such as education, healthcare, and data,...

This is the second year in a row that HM&P has participated in a series of data-intensive events in Singapore, following Personal Data Protection Week 2025. The fact that PDP Week has been expanded into the Singapore Data Festival shows that the scope of discussion is no longer limited to legal privacy requirements, but has placed data in direct contact with business strategy, product development and organizational responsibilities in the digital environment.

    Overview of the event

The experience from the Singapore Data Festival 2026 continues to add a practical perspective to the HM&P team when advising on projects with cross-border elements, applying new technologies or processing large volumes of personal data, thereby accompanying clients in developing legal options that are suitable for their operations and development orientation. long-term development.
