On September 24, 2024, HM&P Law Firm, represented by Managing Partner Nguyen Van Phuc, was honored to participate in the Promotion Conference for the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor between Chongqing (China) and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). This event was part of the Ho Chi Minh City Dialogue 2024, held over two days from September 23 to 24.
The conference was attended by Mr. Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and Mr. Zheng Xiangdong, Vice Mayor of Chongqing. In his opening remarks, Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan emphasized that the cooperative relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Chongqing has made significant progress in recent years since the establishment of their friendly partnership in 2018. Trade and logistics have always been key pillars of cooperation between the two sides.
Mr. Hoan also highlighted that the new international land-sea trade corridor connecting Chongqing to Ho Chi Minh City is not only a strategic commercial project but also a crucial bridge between the two regions. This presents an opportunity to enhance economic cooperation, boost trade, and create favorable conditions for businesses from both sides to expand their markets in the context of globalization and increasingly complex global supply chains.
Chongqing's Vice Mayor, Mr. Zheng Xiangdong, shared insights on Chongqing's growing role as a major transportation and logistics hub, connecting Western China with ASEAN and other international markets. Chongqing has developed three main logistics models, including rail-sea intermodal transport, cross-border trucking, and international rail freight. These achievements have connected Chongqing with 72 cities and 154 train stations in 18 provinces across China, while also reaching 538 ports in 125 countries and territories worldwide.
The new international land-sea trade corridor is an important initiative, integrating rail, road, sea, and air transport to optimize logistics costs and reduce transportation time between ASEAN and Europe. With Ho Chi Minh City—a leading economic center in Southeast Vietnam—participating, the corridor will open up new export opportunities for Vietnam's key products such as rice, coffee, rubber, and fruit. Ho Chi Minh City, with its focus on developing logistics infrastructure and supply chain hubs, is poised to lead in global supply chains, driving innovation and opening up new avenues for economic cooperation between businesses in both countries.
This event is seen as a significant milestone in the economic relationship between Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and Chongqing (China), marking a new phase of trade and investment cooperation.
The conference provided HM&P with the opportunity to connect with potential partners across various sectors and explore investment and trade opportunities between Chongqing and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as between Vietnam and China in general. As a provider of investment advisory services, HM&P aims to become a vital bridge for commercial investment activities between Chinese provinces and Vietnam.
During the conference, Managing Partner Nguyen Van Phuc participated in in-depth discussions on cooperation mechanisms, freight transportation, and effective international market expansion strategies. He emphasized the importance of complying with international legal regulations and optimizing cross-border supply chains. Additionally, Mr. Phuc shared innovative legal solutions to support partner companies in expanding their trade operations from Vietnam to China, as well as exploring business development opportunities for Chinese enterprises in Vietnam.
HM&P's participation in this event not only strengthened its international cooperation network but also opened up new development opportunities, particularly in international trade, logistics, and cross-border investment. Under the leadership of Managing Partner Nguyen Van Phuc, HM&P is committed to continuously enhancing the quality of its legal services, affirming its role as a trusted legal partner for clients in international transactions.
This event also marks a new milestone in supporting Vietnamese and Chinese businesses to leverage the potential of this new trade corridor, fostering sustainable investment and business development between the two nations.
